sittwe02Sittwe is the capital of Rakhine State. It is stituated at south West of Myanmar at Rakhine Coast. Sittwe used to be a former important port town near the Bangladeshi Border on the Westcoast. It is a town originally built by the British in 1826. There is a view point to be enjoyed along the coast. Culture and traditional heritage and colourful Rakhine races are filled in Sittwe. The fish auction-market in Sittwe is interesting but smelly and best visited early morning. There is Sanda Muni Pagoda and the cultural museum and one can walk along Strand road with a nice breeze from the sea. Otherwise the town with it’s airport is a transit hub for travelers going to the former dynasty of Rakhine (Arakan) kingdom situated 80 km north of Sittwe. The boat trip up on Kitsapanadi (Kaladan) river will take you 5 to 6 hours.



mrauku02This 15th century ancient city of Rathine Kingdom is known for its old temples with wall paintings of Indian cultural influence. A regular passenger boat takes hours from Sittwe (Akyab) to Mrauk U.

Special speed boat with 20 seats takes only 2 hours 30 minutes. The Mahamuni Shrine, one of the famous Pagodas in Myanmar, is situated 30 km from Mrauk U, Regular flight from Yangon to Sittwe takes about on hour 30 minutes. Shithaung Pagoda, Dukkanthein Pagoda and Anandawthein Shrine are some of the sites to see in Mrauk U.
